Museums and Collections

Scarborough has a long tradition of museums and collections, dating from the 1800s.  Following the closure in 2006 of Woodend Museum of Natural History, many of the collections are temporarily in storage.  A report commissioned by Scarborough Borough Council in 2007 recommended the future establishment of a Museum of the Seaside (working title).  The Trustees have agreed that the next stage in the development of the Trust's service to the community will be to develop this museum.  A working group has been set up to propose what it would embrace and how it could best be delivered in order to exhibit the unique social and natural history of our area. Further public consultation will take place in due course.
