Noble seamen, murderous pirates, love and valour. Sir Andrew Motion will be reading from his works at an afternoon event in Scarborough on 20 March 2012, organised by Scarborough Museums Trust.

Scarborough Museums Trust are pleased to announce that the Raven Hall Country House Hotel will be the sponsor of the Autumn exhibition ‘Landscape Revisited’ at Scarborough Art Gallery. The exhibition features works by landscape photographer Joe Cornish and painter Kane Cunningham who have each drawn their own inspiration from the landscape paintings in the Gallery’s collection.

The almost forgotten fears and superstitions of local Scarborians are now set to be recorded and preserved for future generations thanks to recent funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The Rotunda Museum has been awarded a Silver badge under the Green Tourism Business Scheme the leading tourism accreditation scheme in the UK.

The amazing collections cared for by Scarborough Museums Trust are in great demand across Yorkshire and beyond.  In recent weeks two very different projects have seen thirty mounted bird specimens head to Sewerby Hall for a Cultural Olympiad project whilst two of the world famous paintings by Atkinson Grimshaw are part of an exciting new exhibition in Harrogate.

A completely new concept in the study of the landscape and art will go on show at Scarborough Art Gallery in October this year. Landscape photographer Joe Cornish and painter Kane Cunningham will exhibit new and exciting work based on their own unique perspective of working in the local landscape. This new work has the art collection at Scarborough Art gallery at its heart; both artists used these collections as the starting point for this unique exhibition.

The exhibition opened with a highly successful private view on Friday 8 July. Howard Hodgkin attended the preview in person and signed copies of his book for the many enthusiasts who attended.

Scarborough Museums Trust awarded the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge.

Scarborough Art Gallery will be playing host to the work of one of Britain’s most internationally celebrated artists this summer. The exhibition opens on Sat 9 July and runs through to Sun 18 September 2011.

In Spring 2010, Scarborough Museums Trust was awarded a grant of £7,600 from the Pilgrim Trust to support the conservation of a maritime painting, Wreck Below the Grand Hotel, by Ernest Roe.

Calling all budding photographers, Scarborough Museums Trust are running an exclusive workshop that will help you build on any photographic skills you have and make the most out of whatever camera you currently have.

On Friday 5th March guests at the Rotunda stepped back in time for an evening of mystery with a fun historical theme. The event raised funds for the great Fossil Festival which will take place in June this year. The evening was a huge success and all targets were exceeded. We would like to thank everyone who helped to make it possible.

Scarborough Museums Trust offers fun and contrast with the February diary of Activities

The forthcoming East Coast Open is an exhibition that shows a fabulous selection of work by amateur and professional artists working in and around the east coast. For the first time it will be preceded by ‘Open Up’ the children’s version of East Coast Open. Both exhibitions are being generously sponsored by Pindar enabling Scarborough Museums Trust to provide exhibition opportunities to artists of all ages.   

A group of Hull University students have produced an interactive audio-visual display that will be on show at the Rotunda until November 24th. 

Vee Shrimpton welcomed parents and special guests to Scarborough Art Gallery last Saturday afternoon to celebrate the artistic achievements of the children who had worked with Artbeat, a Lottery funded project which offers art workshops to children in Scarborough.

Scarborough Museums Trust is offering free events for Heritage Open Days from 11-12 September 2009. The programme includes guided tours of the Rotunda, Scarborough Art Gallery and Scarborough Collections.

It has recently been announced that Lord Derwent is to be made a Freeman of the Borough of Scarborough.
